The W lab welcomes three new members for 2017!
Anthony Tierno - postdoc extraordinaire! Ph.D. from Cornell in the lab of Dr. Chad Lewis.
Bilal Hoblos and Myriam Mikhael - two new 1st year graduate students.
Summer research 2016 is up and running in the W lab and we have three great new undergrads on board and one returning superstar!
Olivia Spergel- starting in the W lab as a freshman with no college chemistry under her belt, Olivia is now a seasoned veteran of the lab. Olivia is supported as a Presidents Scholar and she has taken her talents to BK’s hood where they are working on natural product applications of our ring expansion reactions.
Aimee Dubin- killed it in Sarah’s Orgo I class and decided to join up with us for some summer research as part of Temple’s Undergraduate Research Program (URP). She has teamed up with Jen working on expanding the scope of our ring expansion reactions.
Brandon Bloomer- formerly of the Sieburth laboratory, Brandon was interested in working on some organometallic chemistry and has joined forces with Felipe to develop novel CH activation reactions using our HVI reagents.
Emily Laughlin- Emily is the recipient of the prestigious Frances Velay Fellowship promoting women in STEM. The program is geared towards getting more women into advanced degrees and leadership positions in STEM programs and we are thrilled to host Emily as part of the inaugural class of fellows. We expect great things from her as she teams up with Jess to develop new chiral HVI reagents with amine scaffolds.
The W lab has received a PRF grant from the American Chemical Society to fund their work on novel applications of cationic hypervalent iodine reagents! Congrats to the team and thank you to the Petroleum Research Fund for your support!
The W Lab is excited to welcome three new graduate students to the group, Jessica Roth (Univ. of Scranton), Andrew Mellinger (aka Mell, Juniata University), and Felipe Cesar Sousa E Silva (University of São Paulo – campus Ribeirao Preto – Brazil)! Looking forward to great chemistry from all of you!
The first official reaction in the W Lab got off the ground on 02/06/2015! Maggie was at the helm to synthesize a PPh3-Au complex for her alkyne cyclization project! See Photos for some behind the scenes shots!
The lab is off to a roaring start! We welcomed our first postdoctoral researcher, Brandon Kelley (Ph.D. at UPenn with Madeleine Joullie)! He was quickly followed by three new first year graduate students, Maggie Meade (West Chester University of Pennsylvania), Jen Walters (Arcadia University), and Jed Shambeda (Messiah College). This semester we also have an undergraduate in the lab, Susan Gramlich, and two more undergrads will come on board during the summer, Mark Gleason and Olivia Spergel.
Welcome everyone to the lab! Now its time to do some chemistry!
